This sculpture “Hatchling” depicts a baby Royal Guard Dragon struggling to free herself from her egg.   It is one of a limited edition of 250, each handcrafted from a carved master by the RGDS’s resident artist Nino Nardecchia.

The Knarwood Manuscript, from Medieval times, documents that following the birth of a prince or princess, a member of the Dragon Keeper Guild would place a Royal Guard Dragon egg in the baby’s bassinet. The purest and most plentiful warm energy generated by the loving environment surrounding the new-born human would hasten the time of the baby dragon’s hatching to three days.  At that time, a hatchling Royal Guard Dragon would emerge and bond with the infant prince or princess becoming his or her guardian for life.
